On May 15, 1889, The Eiffel Tower opened to the public and was an instant success. On the day of its opening, a total of 300 floodlights filled with yellow sodium lights were used to illuminate the tower. This display served to make the tower stand out, and since then its nighttime illuminations have become one of the most iconic iconic Parisian monuments.

The lights on the tower also change for special occasions, such as the Bastille Day military parade in July, the Fête de la Musique around June 21,New Year’s Eve, and recently the Paris agreement on climate change.
